Auto-calculation in BOMs
When working with BOMs, 3E Exchange can perform automatic calculations for the weight-related columns.
There are three modes to choose from. Set the mode from the "Auto-calculation" drop down when you import
data, or change it any time from the "Options" button on the Edit BOM view.
Auto-calculation Modes:
- No Auto-calculations
- Percentages (Relative)
- Weights (Absolute)
To prevent 3E Exchange from making any auto-calculations, and simply leave the weight fields
as-is, select "No Auto-calculations."
To work solely in percentages, without any weight values, select "Percentages (Relative)."
Product percentages are automatically calculated for Material percentages.
To work in absolute weights, with percentages automatically calculated, select "Weights (Absolute)."
Weights are automatically calculated for Material Percentages.
How it Works
Percentages (Relative)
- Percentages are set in the Product % by Weight and Material % by Weight columns.
- Product % by Weight can be set to a range of percentages, or a single value. Percentages are in the range 0-100. The percent symbol (%) is optional. To supply a range, use this format: 20-30%
- If Material % by Weight is set, its Product % by Weight is automatically calculated, set from the nearest parent row in the BOM hierarchy with a Product % by Weight value.
- For example: If a parent row has a Product % by Weight of 50%, and a sub-row has a Material % by Weight of 20%, then the Product % by Weight value will be set to 10% (20% of 50%).
- Weight and Unit of Measure are ignored.
Weights (Absolute)
- Weights are set with the Weight and Unit of Measure columns, with Unit of Measure specifying the units of the value in the Weight column
- Grams and Kilograms are supported (g, kg)
- Weights can be ranges - e.g. 100-200 - or single values
- If units are included in the Weight field, the Unit of Measure column is ignored
- Product % by Weight is automatically calculated as the % of the total weight of the product
-
The total weight of the product is calculated as:
- The sum of the lowest-level rows with Weights set in the BOM hierarchy
- If Material % by Weight is set, then the Weight column is calculated as the % of the nearest parent in the hierarchy's weight.
